Pioneer makes a claim to have developed new media with 16 layers that can store up to 400 GB per disc

The technology provides 25 GB of room on each layer, bringing the capacity of one 16-layer disc to 400 GB. Pioneer did comment on the compatibility with current BD discs but, did not mention whether blue or red lasers were used.

Pioneer is having troubles with interference (cross talk) between the layers that will reduce signals being sent out and are hoping to have it ironed out by mid July.
