Today Verizon announced a new app for the FiOS service that allows you to use your smartphone as a remote to control the TV

Today Verizon announced a new app for the FiOS service that will transform your Motorola Droid or HTC Imagio in to a TV remote.

Besides having the typical remote functions, it will also schedule the DVR or set parental controls.  The app also serves as a small-scale media server as photos can show on the TV by using the FiOS set-top box as a conduit.

Verizon promises that more phones will get support in the near future but, the it should roll out on the fiber TV service this week.
