Starting August 1, the price of the HD-DVD player add-on for the XBOX will be reduced to $179 from $199.

Microsoft is also sweetening the deal with five free HD DVD movies for anyone buying an Xbox 360 HD DVD Player between then and September 30.

Will this deal be enticing enough for consumers to overlook Blu-Ray?
