Starting October 18th, Netflix on the PS3 will stream some content in 1080p resolution with 5.1-channel surround audio and will no longer require a disc.
Netflix is partnering with Dolby on the audio side, and the surround format will be Dolby Digital Plus, which is the same codec used by the VUDU HDX streaming service.
In closing, Sony has promised us a new user interface that brings a much richer and faster browsing experience, searching directly on the device, and dramatic improvements in how fast playback starts.
