Thanks to a recently filed patent application, it appears that the rumor of Nintendo working on a vitality sensor is true.

The sensor uses a light beam and a photo detector to read a person's state based on the amount of hemoglobin that absorbs the infrared light.

Based on when the application was submitted, it might be here before Christmas time but, realistically it will probably be around February of 2011.
