Movie studios are now considering releasing hot new movies through a video-on-demand service before the official DVD release date

Reports are coming in that Disney, Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner Bros. are contemplating a different release strategy.

Those movie studios will be releasing hot new movies through a video-on-demand service before the DVD release date, shaving a couple of months off the waiting time.

Not having to wait that long will come at a price though as the VOD rentals could cost as much as $20 to $30 a pop.
