Sony is about to to open up its PlayStation Network download service to other devices beyond the PlayStation 3.

"We will be expanding the PlayStation Network to hardware other than the PS3, because the number of PS3 units sold puts a limit on the scale of the network possible,"

Basically, were hurting for money cause we haven't sold enough PS3's to justify having a dedicated network for the PS3 alone.
