Microsoft brings "Flash" some competition today by announcing a update to its "Smooth Streaming" technology which allows consistent full-screen high definition streaming.

First used with the live streaming of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, Smooth Streaming combines IIS Media Services and Silverlight 3 to provide on-demand high-def media (720p to 1080p), or live adaptive streaming.
