In an attempt to battle Microsoft's monopoly on office software, Apple has said there will be no copy protection on its iWork 09 software

Apple’s website revealed iWork '09 productivity suite (equivalent to Microsoft's Office software) will not require users to input serial numbers in order to activate the product and unlock the applications.

At first, you think how ludicrous because piracy would run rampid on the new software.  Apple is not really worried about that though as there is more to gain than lose in the grand scheme of things.

Apple isn't pursing strong anti piracy tactics because they plan on launching a subscription based service called iWork.com that syncs with the latest version of the offline suite.

Bottom line is, more installations of iWork '09 equal a potentially larger stream of monthly payments. (Very similar to your free cell phone with a 2 year contract deal most wireless phone dealers have)
