Netflix raises the rental rate for Blu-ray disc, even though for the past 2 years it has been the same for DVD
Netflix raises the rental rate for Blu-ray disc, even though for the past 2 years it has been the same for DVD. The reason behind this is not solely because its a "high definition" disc, rather Netflix's profits being hurt by Blockbuster and digital video downloads.

Right now you can get a Netflix membership for about $5 to just under $20. It really all depends on your renting habits. If you watch a lot of movies, you pay more to have the ability to rent more discs at one time.

Its still unclear how much the rent increase will be and if it will apply to each HD disc you rent or some kind of heavy rental plan you can get on.
