Its speculated that Toshiba will lose about 1 billion dollars due to losing the high definition format war against Sony
Toshiba surrendered to Sony last month in the high definition format war after learning of Warner Brothers unexpected decision to release only in Sony's Blu-ray format.

Shortly after that, sales for HD-DVD players and media drastically reduced thus forcing Toshiba to evaluate its potential losses.

Toshiba wouldn't comment on the speculation but, did say

"The company is currently assessing the possible losses. If we need to revise an earnings report, we will make an announcement at an appropriate time."
