The HD-DVD add on was initially the reply Microsoft made to Sony in regards to their PS3 with a integrated Blu-ray drive.

Shortly after the death of the HD-DVD format, Toshiba broke the news that they would no longer manufacture the HD-DVD add on for the XBOX 360.
