There are two new accessories being added to the Wii Console. The first is tentatively being called the Wii Balance Board and will come packed with Wii Fit, the 'active-play' successor to Wii Sports. The board can be used for a range of activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. The Wii Board is a flat, board-like object that rests on the floor and is touch-sensitive.

The second accessory is the Wii Zapper. In which that name is not set in stone yet. It is subject to change. The Zapper combines the accuracy of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in a single housing for use in first-person shooters and targeting games.

The products will arrive on the shelves later this year, packaged with Nintendo-developed software, and will be used with a host of third-party games.

Nintendo seems excited about the prospect of another way to stretch the customer base for the Wii, and as our own fitness experiments showed us, you can lose weight by playing games. This is a very bold step for Nintendo and one that may bring the system to the attention of even more non-gamers.
