$995 is the price tag for this new Pioneer Blu-ray recorder, giving you mighty 25GB of storage. In addition to BD-R, the Pioneer BDR-101A recorder also comes with DVD-R capabilities although the specs are quite modest. Only 8x for ±R and 4x for ±RW recording speeds are supported. While Pioneer is releasing another model later this year, they are not expecting the market demand to rise until 2008.

The BDR-101A features writing speeds of 2x for BD-R (recordable or write once) and BD-RE (rewritable), 8x for DVD-R/+R and 4x for DVD-RW/+RW. The corresponding single-sided single-layer BD DVD discs have a storage capacity of 25GB and a maximum data transfer speed of 72Mbps.
