The results and analysis for Blu-ray (and DVD) sales for the week ending 18th August 2012 is in. Following last week's A-lister, we have another, even bigger one this week. The $400m+ US box office smash The Hunger Games was also a winner on Blu-ray and DVD, easily outselling everything else for the week. Jaws also debuted on Blu-ray this week as part of Universal's 100th anniversary celebrations, and outsold the DVD version of the same set by more than 15 times!
But despite the blockbuster release of The Hunger Games, Blu-ray revenue and market share did not break any records. The reason I think is that The Hunger Games was not available in a Blu-ray+DVD combo version, and so DVD owners were limited to the DVD-only version.
