YouTube announced today that it plans to partner up with the Sundance Film Festival to rent out popular independent films from the 2009 & 2010 film festivals

Starting Friday,YouTube will begin offering up to five films from the Sundance Film Festival in hopes to lure movie studios into this new direction.

The five films will be available to US users until January 31 (when Sundance is over) and most will be available on a pay-per-view basis for $3.99.

Content owners will decide how much the videos will cost to rent, and how long they'll be available.
