Toshiba is hoping to take the television market to a whole new level later this year with the introduction of a 55-inch model based on the powerful Cell multimedia processor.

The new Regza 55X1 TV will use a similar chip found in the PS3 and other high end computer servers that allow ultra high speed processing and recording.

Oddly enough the cell chip will not be inside the TV but, rather in a separate set-top-box that also serves as a DVR with 3TB of storage and allows you to watch up to eight channels on-screen at once.

The TV will first debut in Japan for a little over 1 million Yen, or $11,200 US dollars.
