The California Energy Commission is proposing to ban the sale of TV sets that do not meet new efficiency standards when they are turned on and displaying a picture.

This is terrible news for the large Plasma TV market as they suck the juice something terrible.  LCDs are and will become even more energy efficient.

TV companies are outraged at this proposal as all of them think they have done enough in reducing the amount of juice your TV would need to function.

The new proposal is to reduce the strain on the energy grid, which will help avoid building expensive new power plants.
