In a attempt to compete with HD-DVD, Sony has dropped the price of its Blu-Ray player below $300, which is cheaper than the PS3
Sony’s BDP-S300 can now be found at Circuit City, Best Buy and Amazon.com for less than $300, which is a $100 cheaper than the PlayStation 3, which until now has been the cheapest Blu-ray player out there.

The BDP-S300 handles up to 1080p picture, handles Dolby Digital Plus and DTS sound, and is compatible with Sony’s Bravia Theater Sync system, allowing for universal remote control.

Now here comes the kicker, the player is not profile 1.1 compliant, meaning it will not play certain special features expected on some upcoming Blu-ray discs.
