In the case, Capitol Records VS Jammie Thomas, the jury awarded $9,250 in statutory damages per song, after finding that the infringement was "willful" by Thomas for grand total of $222,000.

The verdict marked the first jury trial in the U.S. industry's drive to combat piracy with lawsuits against an individual.

Will this have any effect on illegal downloading from P2P applications? Doubt it...
