Remove Default skin and replace DefaultWide with DefaultWideHD

It wasn´t an easy decision, but finally we decided to drop the 4:3 Skin "Default" from the installer. For users who need a 4:3 skin, there is a nice replacement called "Four2Three" with the same functionality as the new DefaultWideHD.

We also replaced the skin "DefaultWide" with "DefaultWideHD" with the full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. A lot of users may already know that skin as "DefaultWide HD", from our skin repository.

"DefaultWideHD" offers an easy-to-use BasicHome-Editor inside the GUI to let you configure MediaPortal to your personnel needs.

More information and a description of how to use the new BasicHome Editor can be found under this link: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/support-for-new-defaultwidehd.132552/

Please be aware that this new feature is still experimental, so do not remove DT or VCD before trying!

    Remove Microsoft MCE Input Handler

We removed the Microsoft MCE Input Handler and replaced it with the HID Input Handler, so you should not experience any problems when using Microsoft MCE input devices

Restore last position and size of MP when used in windowed mode.

If you are using MediaPortal in windowed mode, your settings regarding position and size are now stored when you close Mediportal.

    Installation, Upgrade, Download and Feedback

    Installation

MediaPortal IconSince we switched to .NET4 you need to make sure you have.NET4 installed on your computer (not needed if you are on Windows 8 because it comes with .NET4, but you NEED the .NET 3.5 features enabled!). Otherwise you are not able to install MediaPortal and the installer just quits.

Download-Link: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer)

Aside from that when doing a clean installation of the 1.13.0 Final Release there is nothing else to worry about.

    Upgrade

update-iconUpgrading from MP 1.2.0 Beta or later to 1.13.0 Final Release

All MediaPortal 1.2.0 Beta installations can be upgraded to MP 1.13.0 Final Release without losing your settings.

    Plugins:

If you are running MediaPortal 1.6.0 or earlier, then it is possible that some of your previously installed plugins will be shown as incompatible after the upgrade to 1.13.0 Final Release! Whether or not a plugin is incompatible depends on the MediaPortal subsystems the plugin uses.
All plugins that work for the 1.7.1 HotFix release, should also work with the 1.13.0 Final Release.

    Skins:

Warning! Due to the new features and changes introduced in 1.4.0, none of the 1.3.x skins are compatible with MP 1.13.0 Final Release!

Please contact the author of the skin you use for further information and updates.

    Upgrading Extensions:

The easiest way to upgrade your extensions is by launching the MediaPortal Extension Installer, and let it check for updated versions. However this only works for extensions that use our MPEI system. If the author of the extension releases it as a stand alone installer, you must contact them for an updated version.

    General note about Upgrades

    Manually stop TV-Service!

television-iconOn some systems our installer is not able to update the TV-Server installation because its files are locked or the service can not be stopped.
For upgrades to 1.13.0 Final Release we recommend that you manually stop the TV-Service and make sure, via Windows Task Manager (enable the "all users" option), that the TvService.exe process is really gone before starting to upgrade.

    Custom TV-Service properties

If you manually changed the properties of the TV-Service (like restart on error options), then you must redo these changes after the upgrade. The installer is not able to save and restore your custom service properties when it installs the new version of the TV-Service.

If you manually changed the properties of the TV-Service (like restart on error options), then you must redo these changes after the upgrade. The installer is not able to save and restore your custom service properties when it installs the new version of the TV-Service.
Version 1.11.0
  • Release Date: Apr 1, 2015
  • Highlights of this release

    Enhanced TV experience

MediaPortal IconWith MP 1.11.0 Release it is possible to display LiveTV media informations like video resolutions (HD, SD), video bitrate, audio channel count and much more in your TV OSD. This feature is already available in our default skin. Skin designers can have a quick look at our Wiki how to add this enhancement to their skins.

    Improved remote control support

Now supporting a wider range of remote control and input devices out of the box. Check out our new Generic HID remote option.

    Removal of music visualisations

MediaPortal IconUnfortunately we had to drop support for music visualisations with MP 1.11.0 because we are not allowed to use the 3rd party library anymore.

We are working on bringing back this feature as plugin.
Version 1.10.0
  • Release Date: Dec 27, 2014
  • Improvements

Windows-10You'll notice that after installing a dedicated TV Server, you now have the MediaPortal Extension Manager available to install the Server plugins.

For the Client part we added the possibility to update MediaInfo in a selected folder, the option to re-create all/missing thumbs (including subfolders) in MyPictures, an SQLite Database integrity check and to improve troubleshooting, we've added our WatchDog shortcut to your desktop.
The music section has had a rework to improve thumbnail handling and last but not least: This release can be installed on the Windows 10 Technical Preview.
Note: This only applies to the Preview builds with kernel 6 (for now)!

    Bugs

We also fixed a handful of Bugs like the warning for an incompatible skin, DVD resume, the Border selected program in the Radio EPG and we properly remove cancelled schedules from the TV database.
Because a lot of users reported issues with the MySQL upgrade path, we made some changes to this part. Existing installs still get the upgrade offered, but the database engine will remain as is (MyISAM). New installations will get the InnoDB database engine, since this is the default as of MySQL 5.6.
