While PowerDVD 8 added several fun and useful features to PowerDVD 7, PowerDVD 9's additions are much more practical. The TrueTheater HD and Motion features add greatly to the viewing experience, especially when outputted to HDTVs. The new Cinema Mode is an excellent way to make PowerDVD operate much more like a standalone player, and integrates nicely with Windows Media Center and MCE hardware. For the less practical, but more fun, there's also FancyView 3D navigation. There are still some stability issues, mostly related to Blu-ray playback, but that is understandable given how complicated the average Blu-ray disc is these days (BD-J, BonusView, BD-Live ...). HDMI 1.3 support is also welcome and again emphasize the view that PowerDVD can be used to power PC based home theatre hardware.
With refinements to MoovieLive, Remix and the movie collection manager functions, plus all the features from previous version intact, there is nothing else to do but to whole heartedly recommend PowerDVD 9. It will be interesting to see what WinDVD 10 will bring to the able, but as of currently, PowerDVD 9 leads the way in terms of Blu-ray playback and media center functionalities.
