Menu Editor menus

The Menu Editor also has 5 menus of its own:

File Menu

This menu gives you the tools to export and import for:

·         the current buttonexported data is for the selected group in the current button only and includes position and size data, which colour scheme is used by the button (but not the actual colour scheme information), the button command and adjacent button information.  However, when importing, if the “All” box is ticked, the parameters are imported correctly for all groups.

·         the buttons for the whole menu – exported data is all information for all buttons in all groups, plus the advanced global controls set at the bottom of the Menu Editor GUI.

·         the colour schemes.

The exported files are able to be viewed and edited in any text editor.

These functions are very useful if you wish to copy menu button information easily from one DVD to another.

Edit Menu

The functions on this menu are similar to the file menu, except they are more for copying to the current DVD, as opposed to exporting to, and importing from, another DVD.

Additionally, there are options to copy and paste the button’s command and to paste and increment commands (these functions are also accessible from the Clipboard button in the Menu Viewer).

Also on this menu are functions which give you the ability to set or clear adjacent buttons easily.  Select Clear all adjacent button links to clear the links to adjacent buttons on all non-hidden buttons.  After doing this, you will be unable to move off a button with the remote (except with the numerical keypad), so it is necessary to re-link the buttons.  You may do this either numerically (linking button 1 with button 2 then button 3 etc) or by position (where PgcEdit tries to link the buttons logically according to how they are set out).  Verify that all buttons are accessible by selecting Verify buttons accessibility (this function is automatically called when the user closes the Menu Editor and accepts the changes).  If some buttons are inaccessible (as sometimes happens if there are auto-activating buttons), PgcEdit will warn you and you can manually set the adjacent button links.  After using these functions, verify using the cursor keys on the keyboard that the buttons are linked as you intended.

Button Menu

The functions on this menu allow you to create new buttons, align them with other buttons, change the button numbers, undo any changes that have been made and delete buttons you don’t need anymore.  New buttons are created with the LinkTailPGC command.  You may need to alter this to suit your needs.

Note:  The Undo last changes no longer functions once you have pressed OK and exited the Menu Editor, or if you change the current button or group.  As well, it can not be used to undo the advanced options.

CautionDeleting a button may make the DVD unplayable if other parts of the DVD refer to that button in some way.  Hiding a button is much more preferable.

Hide Button Menu

These functions allow you to hide buttons without deleting them.  This is always the safest practice.

You have 3 options.  Hide the button (in an unviewable area of the screen) and change its command to:

·         Jump to a non-deleted button (the command is set to ensure that if this button is selected when you enter the menu, you can press Enter on the remote to highlight the relevant non-deleted button.  The hidden button is also marked as auto-activate in case you select this button via the numeric keypad on the remote).

·         Leave the button with its original command

·         Replace the original command with a NOP (this is usually not recommended, but it has been seen on some extras)

Jumping to a non-deleted button is usually best.  Leaving the original command may be useful if you wish to convert a visible button to an auto-activated hidden one.

After hiding buttons, you should always examine the adjacent buttons to ensure that the remote will work as you intend it to.  Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to test them.

Of course, you may unhide a button by moving and/or resizing it (remember to do this for all button groups).  However, be aware that if you move or resize a hidden button, it will not be regarded as hidden anymore and there could be unintended consequences.

View Menu

Colour Schemes Editor brings up the colour editor (same as clicking Edit Colour Schemes)

The other menu items do not affect how the DVD works or plays but simply affects the PgcEdit GUI.

·         Show Advanced Controls display the advanced global controls at the bottom of the Menu Editor (same as checking Advanced at the bottom of the Menu Editor GUI)

·         If Show all buttons is unchecked, only the selected button will be visible in the Menu Viewer.  Of course, you may select the other buttons by moving to them in the menu viewer with a cursor key or clicking in the Edit button field of the Menu Editor GUI.

·         Show adjacent button links will show the left/right/up/down links of the current button (by pointing to the other buttons).  Same as ticking Show Adjacent Buttons at the bottom of the Menu Editor GUI.

·         You may also select:

   –  Current button edit colour:  The colour of the border for the button being edited

   –  Current button phantom colour:  The colour of the button number for the button being edited

   –  Other buttons colour:  The colours of the border and button number for the buttons not currently being edited
