PopCorn MKV AudioConverter
This is the new official support thread for my PopCorn MKV AudioConverter (the previous one was getting too big, and since I wasn't the thread starter, I couldn't update the first post to reflect the newest version released, so I decided to make a new thread).
Current version is: v1.88.03 Release Date: 31 Jul 2018 Official Download Links: Compressed .EXE, Compressed .ZIP. Alternate Download Links (may not be up-to-date): VideoHelp, Digital Digest. Commercial status: Copyrighted FreeWare License: Manual Tools Download: Click here. Installing Manually downloaded tools: If you have already run the AudioConverter.exe file:
If you have just downloaded and unzipped the main program, but haven't run it yet:
Show your appreciation of this software. You can also send me a Post Card from your local area. The address to send it to can be seen in the program's Help->About menu. Due to the many anti-virus programs not working properly and reporting the compressed .EXE file as various viruses or trojans, I have decided to release an uncompressed version of the program as well. This, however, doesn't support auto-updating (it would attempt to download the compressed .EXE version), so try the compressed .EXE first and use that one if your anti-virus software is properly coded. There is a short tutorial online on how to use the program. Read it before asking questions. FAQ - Read it before asking questions. If you ask a question that has been answered in the tutorial or FAQ you will simply be answered with "RTFM" or "RTFAQ". A good question contains at least: A MediaInfo Report either extracted as described in the Wiki, or by the Menu Option Help->Extract Support Information - A question without such a report will most likely either be ignored or be answered with a request for it. Therefore to save both yours and my time, include it in the first message. Output from AudioConverter - Always include any error messages and the complete contents of the output window in any error report. If not present, there's a good chance that your question will be answered with a request for it... Conversion - Which kind of conversion are you trying to do? DTS-to-AC3? AAC-to-AC3? AAC-to-FLAC? Conversion options - What are the contents of the respective tab in AudioConverter for the conversion you are trying to do? Other information that is generally useful: Operating system - XP? Vista? Win7? Service Pack? (This information is included in the report generated by AudioConverter's Menu Option Help->Extract Support Information) Other valuable information in this area (which isn't detected by the report generated by AudioConverter) is: Running under Wine? Parallels? Anything else? Language of your Windows environment? Tools Versions - The version number of any relevant tools (in particular the one that is causing the trouble) Persistence - Is the problem present with all files that you are trying to convert, or with just the one? The latest additions to the program are as follows:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: There is a fault in the external utility BeSweet when decoding .MP3 files to .WAV for Re-Sampling audio tracks, which decodes it to pure noise. Make sure you are using v1.5b31 or later and make sure to test the file afterwards before letting the application loose on a bunch of files. Show your appreciation of this software. You can also send me a Post Card from your local area. The address to send it to can be seen in the program's Help->About menu. Keld R. RE: PopCorn MKV AudioConverter
Hi there, first of all I want to say thank you - you're program is awesome and I can see that there is no way I would have bothered to figure out how to convert an mkv dts track to dolby digital using so many different programs, so to have it all done via one interface is great.
Although your program is for popcorn hour, I use it with my Western Digital WDHDTV, which can output DTS, unlike the PH (from what I've read). However, when I take it to a friend's house and they don't have a multichannel surround sound setup (lazy of them I know!), I get no sound over HDMI, whereas it will output DD 5.1 and downmix it if necessary so that most tvs will play the sound ok. Hence the use for your program - to provide a DD soundtrack from a DTS one as many mkvs only come with DTS. Anyway, now that I've explained, my 3 points are... 1) When I select 'preserve DTS track', the new Dolby Digital track is fine but the original DTS track, which was previously fine, starts to 'stutter' i.e. every few moments it seems to cut out momentarily. Has anyone else mentioned this? Is it a bug? Can it be fixed? 2) I understand the programs main use, and why most users would want dolby digital to become the new default soundtrack, but, as you can see from my setup, DTS would still be my main default track preference after conversion. Could you add a radio button or something in the settings that enables this option? (even if not on by default) 3) General questions - have read your tutorial but with your latest update there are options for "Clean up DTS track before re-encode" and "Re-sample low-sample-rate audio tracks". Could you provide a quick explanation of what these do and whether they are generally desirable to have on or not please? May sound like I'm whinging but I love to software and appreciate the effort you've put it... Cheers! |

great software I still recommend it regularly.
@noli, download mkvtoolnix and fire up MKVMerge. There you can rearrange your tracks in whatever order you wish:- http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtool...loads.html A500: SSD(NMTAPPS) VTen: SDCard(NMTAPPS) Seagate USBHDD A400: SDcard(NMTAPPS) CAT6 Gb Wired Network: TV Panasonic TX-P42G20, Synology CS407 |

I haven't heard of this particular scenario before, but you may be able to fix it by enabling the "Always" option in the "Cleanup DTS track before re-encode" area. Could you add a radio button or something in the settings that enables this option? (even if not on by default) I would rather not introduce options to the main program that will only be used/useful for a very limited number of people - especially when it is so simple afterwards to do it yourself using the MKV tools (see Chris' reply). I'll think about it, but don't hold your breath... (04-19-2009 11:38 PM)Noli Wrote: 3) [...] there are options for "Clean up DTS track before re-encode" and "Re-sample low-sample-rate audio tracks". Could you provide a quick explanation of what these do and whether they are generally desirable to have on or not please? "Clean up DTS track" is used to - try - to eliminate the stuttering of DTS tracks. Generally, it is used on tracks that are already stuttering before conversion, but it can also be used to try to eliminate it for tracks that stutter afterwards (although, as I have said, I have never heard of that type of scenario). Generally, I would set it at "Only if requested", as this will then only kick when the external tools request that such a pass be done. Then - for the files that produce stuttering DTS playback - try to set it to always for that conversion to see if it fixes the problem. "Re-sample low-sample-rate audio tracks" are used to make sure that audio tracks' sample rate (the Hz) are within the range that can be "legally" transmitted over digital links. The HDMI interface officially only supports sample rates of 32 KHz and up, so if you encounter a file with a sample rate of 24 KHz and try to send the digital data over the HDMI cable, you cannot be sure that the receiving end will understand the data that comes. Generally, I would leave that on, as it only kicks in when it encounters a low-sample-rate audio track, which there aren't many of. Keld R. RE: PopCorn MKV AudioConverter
Hi there, first of all sorry for my bad english.
I have a big Problem. I want to recode a DTS in a AC3 mkv file for my WD HD TV (ok, its NOT a PopCorn Hout but i hope you will help me anyway ) I did everything that is explained here: http://audioconverter.heartware.dk/Tutorial/ but then, i click the run button and only this appears: G:\>"C:\Program Files (x86)\MKVtoolnix\mkvinfo.exe" F:\Filme\HD\sample.mkv >E:\TEMPFI~1\TEMP\MKVINFO.OUT Video Track: Non-existing! I do not know what to do? Its a normal .mkv File with DTS Codec and Video. Can u help me? Use an English-language MKVInfo.
Since AudioConverter parses the output from MKVInfo, it is coded to recognize the output in English - not in German. Keld R. Hansen PopCorn MKV AudioConverter: Tutorial FAQ YAMJ Poster Maker |

I have a number of Micro hd files (MKV) with only AAC 6 channel sound that I can't hear with my setup, will this tool let me convert that to 6channel AC3?
Running WDTV player, audio through receiver (I think it's possibly the receiver that can't recognize the AAC). I'd appreciate simple instructions as I'm pretty new at this, thanks! |

RE: PopCorn MKV AudioConverter
I'm trying to convert DTS audio track from an H264 mkv to AC3 but fail every time.
It does the first two tasks susseccfully (demuxing tracks and extracting time codes for audio tracks for proper handling of audio delay), Then it claims to be converting and remux'ing (it doesn't even take a second to complete these 2 tasks) and of course there is no output file ... Any suggestions? Thanks. Progress log is as follows: Progress log: Extracting Information for file "E:\filmid\SDM-blu720p.mkv" Video Track: Track Number: 1 Codec: V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Pixel Resolution: 1280x544 Aspect ratio: 2,35 Display Resolution: 1280x544 Frames per second: 23,976 Audio Track #1 Track Number: 2 Name: English DTS 1509kbps Codec: A_DTS Language: eng SampleRate: 48000 Channels: 6 Subtitle Track #1 Track Number: 3 Name: English Codec: S_TEXT/UTF8 Language: eng DeMuxing tracks Extracting time codes for audio tracks for proper handling of audio delay Track #2 wasn't delayed Converting DTS track to 6ch AC3 track at 384 kbit/sec ReMuxing new audio tracks into SDM.AC3.mkv |

RE: PopCorn MKV AudioConverter
A wild guess: The output file name has ".AC3" in it - don't know if some of the external program I use has problems with this.
Otherwise, the only suggestion I have is to look at the temporary directory for a file SPAWN.BAT that is used to execute the external programs. It may be a bit tricky if the applications abort immediately, but the output from this file would be of great help in figuring out why it fails. The programs themselves returns with no error level, otherwise AudioConverter would have picked up on it. Keld R. Hansen PopCorn MKV AudioConverter: Tutorial FAQ YAMJ Poster Maker |

I will try to check out the batch file. EDIT: Thanks for the clue, I managed to track down the problem. I had an ampersand (&) in one of my dir names under which the tool bundle lies, the batch file didn't like that kind of a path. |
