Thank-you. ******************************************************* 2. DeCSS court trial coverage As you all probably know by now, the issue over the distribution of DeCSS has gotten quite out of control, now that there are 2 "independent" and extremely powerful groups that are taking legal action against various sites (DVD Digest included). We have always believed that DeCSS is not something that should be classified as illegal. It is merely a software tool, that enables users to explore more about the DVD format, by allowing users to copy DVD .vob files from their DVDs. It is also an essential part of the open-source Linux DVD player project. We have already started our in depth converage of the court cases, and you can read more about it here : http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/news.html ******************************************************* 3. Get it here : http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/xingdvd.html ******************************************************* 4. Possible virus alert A week ago, a file, pdvd1208_c.zip (or pdvd1208_crack.zip), was posted on the PowerDVD Download Center webpage. There is a file within this .zip file called crack.exe, which reportedly contains the backdoor.trojan virus. However, after extensive testing, this result could only be obtained when using Norton Anti-Virus 2000. No other virus software detects such a virus, and there does not seem to be any symptoms normally associated with this virus. After contacting the author of this software, we believe this is NOT a virus, but rather a piece of code that makes Norton think it is. However, for safety's sake, this file has already been removed by the webmaster of PowerDVD Download Center (and also since PowerDVD 2.5.5 has been released, there is no need for this file anymore). They have claimed that this file, and all files, are extensively tested with various anti-virus programs before it is distributed. However, this time, it did not seemed to have been checked with Norton. If you still have a copy of crack.exe on your hard-drive, we suggest you remove this file immediately. ******************************************************* 5.
