A software bug in the iPhone alarm clock causes havoc around the world

The Apple iPhone has suffered it's own version of the 'Y2K' bug, when the alarm clock app failed to wake up users on New Year's day.

The bug also affects alarms set on the 2nd of January, and on any iPhone that uses the latest iOS version.

Apple has already released a statement saying that the issue will be fixed on the 3rd of January, which is no consolation to those that didn't wake up on time in the two days previous. Thankfully, the bug occurred during the weekend, and also during the holiday period, or more people would have been affected.

A similar bug affected the phones in October, when daylight savings kicked in.

Update: It appears that many are still suffering the same problems on the first working day of 2011, when Apple had promised that the fix would have already been implemented.
