Blu-ray adoption took off at a snails pace. People just really didn't care about the next generation DVD format.  They were quite satisfied with DVD quality and didn't see any reason to spend their hard earned money on Blu-ray.

With the rising cost of gas and food (as well as everything else), consumers are now looking at ways to stay home to save money.  Considering the average night out and the movies will run the two of you at least $100, it makes sense to enhance your home video experience.
