Amazon is currently running several promotions for HD movies (both Blu-ray and HD DVD), and the response has been enourmous. At the time of this news story, 4 of the top 10 movie sales are HD (3 HD DVD, 1 Blu-ray), including a number 2 spot for the HD DVD version of 300 , and a number 10 spot for Heroes - Season 1 on HD DVD (you can enter the code "TVGUIDE5" to get a 5% discount this HD DVD set).
The reason for this surge is Amazon's current 3 for the price of 2 promotion for both formats, which was revealed a day earlier on several forums. You put 3 HD DVD/Blu-ray movies (3 of the same kind only) in your shopping cart, and when you checkout, you only need to pay for 2 of them (you will receive a discount that matches the price of the cheapest disc in the three you have chosen).

There are also some other promotions going on that involves buying Blu-ray or HD DVD hardware, and getting up to 8 movies for free! Plus, you can include the 3 for 2 discount to combine the savings.
