Mudith: This forum thread may be of help, although I would seriously consider posting there first to confirm whether you local version of the HD-A2 works with the region-free firmware posted there:

Hi Vijay

The great thing about HD DVD players is that they are region-free, so you can pick up one from anywhere and it will play HD DVD movies from anywhere. However, this does not extend to DVD playback of the player, which is region limited. South Africa is in DVD region 2, the same as Europe.

The one thing you have to look out for, if you are purchasing overseas, is the power supply and whether you need a step up/down transformer for it.

From the info I've found, South Africa uses 220-240V/50Hz, which is the same as Europe and Australia (and most of Asia), so if you do buy a HD DVD player from the US, then you might need a transformer for the 110V US player. Plus it won't play your local DVDs, since US players are region 1.

Other than this (and of course, the lack of a warranty when buying overseas), there shouldn't be any problems (like NTSC/PAL). If you can't source a local HD DVD player, then perhaps looking to get one from Europe makes sense (even though it's a lot more expensive than buying from the US).
